What are the best cookie sheets?

Cookie sheets, also known as baking sheets, can be used to bake various kinds of cookies and all sorts of other desserts or dishes. What you need to consider prior to purchasing one is : What will you be using it for exactly ?  And how would you like to see your creations come out of the oven?  If you like nice evenly browned cookies for example you might want to consider getting one with a thick solid bottom. If on the other hand, you prefer light or dryer cookies you might want to go with a thin cookie sheet that heats up faster and bake your cookies at a faster rate. There is also the option, non-stick coating vs regular aluminium. Non-stick coating retain heat for much longer and can more easily burn the bottom of your creations, which is a plus if you like a crispy layer without having your cookies stick to the sheet. With regular aluminium cookie sheets you will have to use baking paper or butter to prevent that from happening. Below is an overview of the best cookie sheets for home use currently available.

How to use cookie sheets

  • When you are preparing cookes, bread or anything else made of dough, make sure that the cookie sheet you are going to use is cold or at least below room temperature before you place the dough on it. This prevents it from melting and affecting the dough’s shape and texture.
  • When placing the cookie sheet in the oven, make sure that it leaves at least 1 inch of space around the edges so the heat can circulate around it. If you want, you can now rotate the cookie sheet and wipe clean any dough you might have spilled between the cookies
  • Use one cookie sheet at a time. If you need to bake several batches, don’t place one sheet above another in the same oven. This causes temperature differences and uneven baking.
  • Always place cookies in the center of the oven.
